Make Your Own Cookbook

Iron Chef: Yahoo Answer…want to play?
What would you make out of these items, if I gave them to you and 1 hour.?
If you were given 1 hour and these 3 items, what would you make. I am writing a cookbook based on your answers. Please make your recipe, your own, and you can only use what you have in Your Kitchen today. Be creative and give the recipe.
1) 6 AVOCADO’s
2) 3 can’s of french onion soup
3) 5 cornish hen’s
The only way that 5 Cornish hens would cook in 1 hour, is to cut them in half and BBQ them; so I’d do a citrus glaze on them. I’d use the onion soup as the liquid to make mashed potatoes …. and serve a baby green salad with balsamic vignarette and sliced avocados…..

Art of Computer Programming, Volume 1, Fascicle 1: MMIX — A RISC Computer for the New Millennium $19.99 This multivolume work is widely recognized as the definitive description of classical computer science. The first three volumes have for decades been an invaluableresource in programming theory and practice for students, researchers, and practitioners alike. Countless readers have spoken about the profound personal influence of Knuth's work. Scientists have marveled at the beauty and elegance of his analysis, while ordinary programmers have successfully applied his "cookbook" solutions to their day-to-day problems. All have admired Knuth for the breadth, clarity, accuracy, and good humor found in his books. Primarily written as a reference, if you need to do any serious computer programming, you will find your own good reason to make each volume from beginning to end. A programmer in China even compared the experience to reading a poem. Whatever your background, if you need to do any serious computer programming, you will find your own good reason to make each volume in this series a readily accessible part of your scholarly or professional library. For the first time in more than 20 years, Knuth has revised all three books to reflect more recent developments in the field. His revisions focus specifically on those areas where knowledge has converged since publication of the last editions, on problems that have been solved, on problems that have changed. In keeping with the authoritative character of these books, all historical infomation about previous work in the field has been updated where necessary. Consistent with the author's reputation for painstaking perfection, the rare technical errors in his work, discovered by perceptive and demandingreaders, have all been corrected. Hundreds of new exercises have beeen added to raise new challenges. A word from Don Knuth: For the past 20 years I've been making copious notes in my personal copies of The Art of Computer Programming, whenever I've noticed how those books |

Barefoot Contessa Parties! Ideas and Recipes for Easy Parties That Are Really Fun $35 After more than twenty years of running Barefoot Contessa, the acclaimed specialty food store, Ina Garten published her first collection of recipes. The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook was an overnight sensation, but it’s the kind of success that can only be grounded in years of experience. In it, Ina shared her ideas for familiar food but with outstanding flavor and — most important of all — recipes that really work. Now, with Barefoot Contessa Parties! Ina shares secrets she has gleaned from her years not only as a caterer but as a dedicated party giver. The keyword here is fun. Ina’s parties are easy to prepare and fun for everyone, including the host. Forget those boring Saturday-night dinners that just won’t end. With Ina’s advice, you’re certain to have all your friends saying, “Wasn’t that fun!”Ina has packed Barefoot Contessa Parties! with plans for pulling off parties like a pro, stories about her own parties, and tips on assembling food (rather than cooking everything) and organizing like a caterer. In the spring you can invite your friends to a party where they all make their own pizzas. Come summer, it’s into the garden for a lunch with grilled lamb and pita sandwiches that guests assemble themselves. In the autumn, when it’s not Thanksgiving, Ina roasts a fresh turkey, which her friends enjoy with popovers and a creamy spinach gratin. And on a snowy winter’s day, everyone is invited for a lunch buffet with seafood chowder and butternut squash and apple soup.Ever since Ina published her first book, people write, e-mail, and stop her on the street to say how much they love the food. She’s reached new heights here with recipes like sour cream coffee cake—the ultimate breakfast treat. Salads? The red lettuce, balsamic onions, and blue cheese; Chinese chicken salad; and panzanella may be the best you’ve ever tasted. Getting a well-balanced dinner on the table after a busy day is a constant challenge. Cook’n Fix Forget helps you prepare meals the old-fashioned way: slow cooking. One way to cope is by using a crockpot once or twice a week. This modern appliance uses an old-fashioned method: long, slow cooking at a controlled temperature setting. Cooking in Europe, 1250-1650 $45 Ever get a yen for hemp seed soup, digestive pottage, carp fritters, jasper of milk, or frog pie? Would you like to test your culinary skills whipping up some edible counterfeit snow or nun’s bozolati? Perhaps you have an assignment to make a typical Renaissance dish. The cookbook presents 171 unadulterated recipes from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Elizabethan eras. Most are translated from French, Italian, or Spanish into English for the first time. Some English recipes from the Elizabethan era are presented only in the original if they are close enough to modern English to present an easy exercise in translation. Expert commentary helps readers to be able to replicate the food as nearly as possible in their own kitchens. An introduction overviews cuisine and food culture in these time periods and prepares the reader to replicate period food with advice on equipment, cooking methods, finding ingredients, and reading period recipes. The recipes are grouped by period and then type of food or course. Three lists of recipes-organized by how they appear in the book and by country and by special occasions-in the frontmatter help to quickly identify the type of dish desired. Some recipes will not appeal to modern tastes or sensibilities. This cookbook does not sanitize them for the modern palate. Most everything in this book is perfectly edible and, according to the author, noted food historian Ken Albala, delicious! |

In Pursuit of Flavor $18.95 Perhaps no other cook has played such a central role in the renaissance of traditional southern cooking as Edna Lewis. When asked who has influenced them most, chefs from New York to Little Washington to Charleston cite Ms. Lewis and her classic collection of recipes, In Pursuit of Flavor, first published in 1988.Edna Lewis learned to cook by watching her mother prepare food in their kitchen in a small farming community in Virginia. Because she was raised at a time when the vegetables came from the garden, fruit from the orchard, pickles, relishes, chutney, and jellies from quick canning, and meat from the smokehouse, Edna Lewis knows how food should taste. Every recipe included in her cookbook, both old friends and new discoveries, reflects her memory of and continuing search for good flavor. In chapters devoted to fruits and vegetables, meat and fowl, fish, herbs and spices, bread, and other baked goods, Ms. Lewis shares her secrets for getting the best out of food: combining tomatoes with cymling squash, pumpkins with onion and bacon, cooking sweet potatoes with lemon, and boiling corn in its husk. She always keeps a bit of country ham around to perk up greens, cooks fish fillets or chicken breasts in parchment, and braises meat in a clay pot to keep it moist. Her baking recipes, for the griddle and the oven, include tips on the right flour to use, how to make your own baking powder (to avoid the chemical taste), how to listen for signs that a cake is done, and when to use frozen butter in a pie crust and when to use pure leaf lard. In Pursuit of Flavor brings generations of cooking wisdom to today’s kitchen. |

Michael’s Genuine Food: Down-to-Earth Cooking for People Who Love to Eat $35 JAMES BEARD AWARD–WINNING CHEF Michael Schwartz put Miami’s Design District on the culinary map when he opened his restaurant, Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink, in 2007. In a town where food and cocktails are as much a part of the pulse as tans and nightclubs, Michael’s Genuine strikes a very different note. Reviving the city’s dining scene from an overabundance of “Floribbean” cuisine, the restaurant quickly won national praise for its superlative yet unpretentious fare, with Frank Bruni of the New York Times naming it one of the country’s top ten best new restaurants. In his first cookbook, Michael Schwartz shares his approachable, sought-after recipes with home cooks everywhere. Michael focuses on sourcing exceptional ingredients and treating them properly—which usually means simply. A salad truly becomes a meal, such as BLT Salad with Maple-Cured Bacon, as do pizzas, pastas, soups, and sandwiches. Snacks aren’t precious bits on toothpicks but hearty, eat-with-your-hands fare that can be mixed and matched, such as Caramelized Onion Dip with Thick-Cut Potato Chips and Crispy Polenta Fries with Spicy Ketchup. Side dishes are adventurous accompaniments that hold up mightily on their own, while the boldly flavored main dishes—from Grilled Wild Salmon Steak with Fennel Hash and Sweet Onion Sauce to Grilled Leg of Lamb with Salsa Verde—come in two sizes: large and extra large, for serving family-style at the table. From simple desserts that riff on classic childhood favorites and flavors, including Banana Toffee Panini, to Michael’s favorite drinks, you’ll have everything you need for the perfect dinner at home. With seventy full-color photographs and abundant ingredient tips to help make the most of what’s freshest at the market, Michael’s Genuine Food is a guide you’ll return to time and time again for meals that will slip everyone into a |
