what age did you take your child out of a highchair? My daughter is now 12 but i took her out at 2 1/2..My son just turned 4 and i he still sits in his at home. When we are at restaurants, he sits in the booth with me and not a fun experience as he will NOT eat, he is too much of a busybody but when we are at home, i put him in his highchair and even though, it takes him a good 40 minutes to eat, he will as he knows. I would rather keep him in the highchair and be stressed free instead of him in a booster seat at the table and me yelling eat, eat, sit down, etc
Mine went to a booster around 18 months to 2. If I’m being honest I think 4 is a little old for a highchair. It might seem easier now but you aren’t doing him any favors or yourself really. The way they learn to sit and eat is by doing it. The reason you have a hard time in a restaurant is because he is not used to being out of the highchair. If you worked with him at home (even though it might be hard) he would learn to sit and eat and would do it in a restaurant as well.
He is old enough to understand what he needs to do and you shouldn’t have to repeat and yell for him to eat eat eat. What you do is set a timer for 20 minutes and tell him he has 20 minutes to eat. Once 20 minutes is up you will take the plate whether he is done or not and he won’t get anything else. Then you have to stick to it even if he freaks out and cries that he is hungry after 20 minutes. In time he will learn that if he wants the meal he better eat it and not fool around or it will be taken.
